A Rebar Technician (also called a Rebar Worker, Rebar Tier, or Rebar Installer) is a skilled construction professional who measures, cuts, bends, ties, and places steel reinforcement bars (rebar) in concrete structures to ensure their structural integrity.

Role Overview

Rebar Technicians are essential in building foundations, walls, columns, beams, bridges, and other infrastructure. They interpret construction plans, fabricate rebar to specifications, and secure it in place before concrete pouring. The role blends technical skill, physical strength, and attention to detail

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine rebar placement, size, and spacing
  • Measure, cut, and bend rebar to project specifications using manual or mechanical tools
  • Tie rebar assemblies with wire or tie guns to maintain structural alignment
  • Place and secure rebar in forms, ensuring correct spacing, cover, and alignment
  • Inspect installations for accuracy, quality, and compliance with safety and structural standards
  • Cooperate with other trades and supervisors to coordinate installation activities
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep the work area safe and organized

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: Entry-level to journeyman; often 1–2+ years in rebar work or related trade
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; apprenticeship or on-the-job training preferred
  • Technical skills: Ability to read blueprints, use rebar cutters/benders, and follow structural specifications
  • Physical ability: Capacity to lift and maneuver heavy steel bars in various weather conditions
  • Safety knowledge: OSHA 10 or equivalent, fall protection, and site safety compliance
  • Soft skills: Attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and quality focus

Work Environment

Rebar Technicians work on-site for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. The job is physically demanding, often outdoors, and may involve lifting heavy materials, working in confined spaces, and adhering to strict safety protocols

In summary: A Rebar Technician is a hands-on construction role that ensures the structural skeleton of concrete buildings and infrastructure is correctly fabricated and installed, requiring both technical precision and physical stamina.
