Construction Specialist

Salary: $26.00 - $30.40 DOE
Express Employment Professionals is seeking dependable and safety-conscious Construction Specialists to support construction and utility projects.
This position provides hands-on experience working alongside an established construction team. The Construction Specialist will assist with general construction labor, site preparation, equipment operation support, material handling, and maintaining safe and organized job sites.
The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, follows directions, understands the importance of workplace safety, and is comfortable working outdoors in physically demanding environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general construction labor and provide support on active construction and utility job sites.
- Safely use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Assist with digging and preparing trenches for pipes and utility lines.
- Move, remove, fill, and compact soil and other materials as needed.
- Assist equipment operators by providing signals and guidance to support safe equipment positioning and movement.
- Set up, maintain, and clean construction work areas.
- Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment from company vehicles.
- Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) activities before beginning work at new project sites.
- Establish and maintain designated safety perimeters using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
- Assist with traffic control and flagging when properly trained and assigned.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, job-site requirements, and supervisor instructions.
- Perform additional construction-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and situational awareness.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Availability for occasional overtime, weekend work, after-hours assignments, and emergency projects as business needs require.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, as required for operating company vehicles and traveling between job sites.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position involves physical labor in active construction environments. Essential physical requirements include:
- Ability to regularly lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently, with team assistance for loads weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain and safely navigate active construction areas, including designated areas near open trenches.
- Ability to work outdoors in temperatures ranging approximately from 32°F to 100°F or higher.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, potentially 8–12 hours per shift, on surfaces such as asphalt or concrete.
- Ability to sit for extended periods when assigned to operate or assist with pilot vehicles.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and perform repetitive physical tasks, including shoveling and digging.
- Ability to maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, vehicles, equipment, and changing job-site conditions.
Driving and Travel Requirements
This position may require travel between client locations and construction sites. Employees assigned to drive company vehicles must maintain a valid driver's license and meet applicable company driving requirements. Responsibilities may include transporting tools, equipment, and materials between designated locations.
