Diesel Mechanic | $30/Hour | Monday–Friday Day Shift

We are hiring an experienced, dependable Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, and repair medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. This position focuses on inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and routine repairs, with major engine and transmission work returned to the shop for daytime service.

Pay: $30.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On-Call Rotation: Approximately one night per week and one weekend per month
Service Area: Champaign County, Illinois

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical problems on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles
• Complete routine repairs on vehicle components and related systems
• Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance services
• Troubleshoot and complete minor repairs during on-call assignments
• Return vehicles requiring major repairs to the shop for daytime service
• Use basic hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and completed repairs
• Follow all company safety practices and procedures
• Keep tools, equipment, and the work area clean and organized

Qualifications

• Three to five years of automotive or diesel mechanic experience preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Experience working with medium- or heavy-duty vehicles is preferred
• Formal automotive or diesel training is helpful but not required
• Additional training may be provided for the right candidate
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be willing to travel throughout Champaign County
• Must be available for approximately one on-call night per week and one weekend per month
• Respectful, punctual, dependable, and hardworking
• Able to work independently and retain new technical information
• Safety-conscious with strong attention to detail

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to bend, crouch, twist, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding mechanical work
