Position Summary 

CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist

Growing precision machine shop in South Charlotte is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist to independently program, set up, and operate CNC milling machines and lathes in a fast-paced custom manufacturing environment. This position is ideal for a machinist who can take a project from blueprint review through programming, setup, first-piece approval, and production while maintaining tight tolerances and high quality standards.

Responsibilities 

CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist

• Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam/CAD software
• Independently perform complete machine setups on Haas CNC Mills and Lathes
• Operate and set up Haas, Mori (Mori Seiki), Doosan, and Mazak CNC equipment
• Produce and verify first-piece inspections prior to production runs
• Establish and adjust work offsets, tool offsets, and machining parameters
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, fixture, and setup issues independently
• Maintain dimensional accuracy on complex tight-tolerance components
• Support 3-axis, 4-axis, and rotary-table machining operations
• Modify and troubleshoot G-code and M-code programs as needed
• Monitor production runs to ensure quality and efficiency
• Minimize scrap, rework, machine downtime, and production delays
• Meet production schedules and customer deadlines
• Work closely with quality, engineering, and production teams

Required Qualifications 

CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist

• Minimum 3 years of CNC programming and setup experience
• Strong experience with Haas CNC Mills and/or CNC Lathes
• Ability to independently set up, program, edit, and operate CNC equipment
• Proficiency with Mastercam-generated CNC programs
• Working knowledge of G-code and M-code programming
• Experience with complex setups and tight-tolerance machining
• Ability to read precision measuring tools and inspection equipment
• Strong blueprint interpretation skills
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work efficiently in a job shop environment with changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications 

CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist

• Experience with 4-axis machining and rotary tables
• Familiarity with multiple Haas machine models
• Previous experience in custom or job-shop manufacturing
• Formal technical training in CNC Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field
• Experience performing manual machine setups is a plus but not required
