Compensation:

• Project Accountant: $72,000–$90,000 annually
• Senior Project Accountant: $80,000–$101,000 annually

A growing commercial construction company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant or Senior Project Accountant to join its team in Mesa, Arizona. Reporting directly to the Controller or CFO, this role will play an important part in managing project financials, supporting accounting operations, and helping establish scalable processes as the company continues to grow. Key Responsibilities

• Manage construction job costing and project accounting activities.
• Prepare and manage AIA billing, progress billing, and retainage tracking.
• Monitor project budgets, costs, and financial performance.
• Oversee accounts receivable, collections, and customer payment follow-up.
• Process subcontractor and vendor invoices accurately and timely.
• Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports.
• Process payroll, including certified payroll when required.
• Assist with month-end close, financial reporting, and forecasting.
• Support project closeout activities and ensure accurate final project financials.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, reporting, and internal processes.
• Collaborate with project management and leadership to maintain accurate financial records and support informed business decisions.

Qualifications & Requirements

• At least 2 years of accounting experience.
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with job costing and project financial reporting.
• Familiarity with AIA billing, progress billing, retainage, and change orders preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
