Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Hand – Red Seal Truck & Transport Mechanic to join their maintenance team in Halifax, NS.

This is a hands-on Lead Hand position for an experienced mechanic who enjoys working with tools while providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to other technicians.

The successful candidate will be a strong technician with excellent diagnostic and electrical skills, a solid background in Truck & Transport mechanics, and the ability to teach, mentor, and inspire a team.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on mechanical repairs, maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain buses, coaches, support vehicles, and related equipment.
• Perform complex troubleshooting and assist other technicians with difficult repairs.
• Use strong diagnostic and electrical skills to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
• Perform diesel engine repairs and maintenance.
• Complete preventative maintenance and required inspections.
• Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
• Work alongside other technicians as a senior working mechanic.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other mechanics.
• Mentor, teach, and train new employees and apprentices.
• Share technical knowledge, best practices, and safe work procedures.
• Help coordinate day-to-day work and maintenance priorities.
• Lead by example and promote teamwork, communication, and a positive work environment.
• Encourage and reinforce safe work practices and company procedures.
• Review completed work to ensure repairs meet quality and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation of repairs and maintenance activities.
• Assist with parts requirements and inventory control.
• Participate in meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with emergency breakdowns and after-hours support when required.

 

What We're Looking For

• Red Seal Truck & Transport Mechanic certification – required.
• 5-10 years of progressive Truck & Transport mechanical experience.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, electrical knowledge, solid diesel engine knowledge, preventative maintenance and inspection, etc.
• Strong hands-on mechanical ability and comfortable working with tools regularly.
• Experience working with buses, coaches, commercial vehicles, or fleet equipment is an asset.
• Strong Truck & Transport experience is highly valued.
• Previous experience mentoring, teaching, or guiding apprentices and technicians.
• Ability to inspire, motivate, and support a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver's license. Class 2 or Class 3 license with air brake endorsement is an asset.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
