CNC Beam Coping Machine Operator Apprentice – Livingston Parish

FULL-TIME | LONG-TERM | EVALUATION HIRE
Starting at $18-20/Hour

Hours: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. Overtime may be required on Fridays and Saturdays as needed.

 

Express Employment Professionals, a full-service staffing agency, is currently seeking a motivated and dependable CNC Beam Coping Machine Operator Apprentice for a local structural steel fabrication facility in Livingston Parish. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in steel fabrication, CNC machining, and structural steel production while receiving hands-on training.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

As a CNC Beam Coping Machine Operator Apprentice, you will train under experienced operators and assist with the fabrication of structural steel components using CNC beam processing equipment.

• Learn to operate CNC beam coping machinery used for cutting, coping, drilling, notching, and marking structural steel members.
• Load and unload structural steel beams, channels, and angles safely and efficiently.
• Read and interpret shop drawings, cut lists, and production schedules.
• Verify material sizes, grades, and heat numbers before processing.
• Assist with machine setup, tooling changes, and material alignment.
• Monitor machine operations to ensure parts are produced within specifications.
• Inspect completed materials for accuracy, quality, and compliance with fabrication drawings.
• Learn how to identify machine malfunctions and report issues promptly to supervisors.
• Maintain accurate production records and material documentation.
• Follow all safety standards and company procedures.
• Keep work areas organized, clean, and free from hazards.
• Work closely with supervisors and team members to meet production goals and deadlines.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Learn to read and understand structural steel detail drawings and fabrication prints.
• Assist with layout verification and quality checks on fabricated steel members.
• Use measuring tools including tape measures, squares, levels, and calipers.
• Learn material handling techniques using overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment (training provided as required).
• Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas.
• Read and write English and perform basic math calculations involving fractions, decimals, and measurements.
• Develop an understanding of CNC programming concepts and machine controls.
• Participate in all required safety meetings and training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn CNC machinery operation.
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
• Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Reliable attendance and positive work ethic.
• Previous manufacturing, fabrication, machine operation, or construction experience is a plus, but not required.
• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and working around heavy steel materials.
