About the Opportunity

Our client is looking for a dependable Forklift Operator to join their Operations team. In this hands-on role, you will safely operate powered industrial forklifts to load, unload, and move freight in a fast-paced, all-weather environment, including work inside ship holds. What You’ll Do

Operations

• Operate powered industrial forklifts and related equipment for the work they are designed to perform
• Safely load and unload conveyances and accurately walk off space within them
• Recoup freight as needed and stay flexible with job assignments
• Help control damage and loss
• Maintain housekeeping standards set by location staff and management
• Perform other duties assigned by management to keep operations running without interruption

Equipment Maintenance

• Complete a daily inspection of your assigned equipment
• Perform minor maintenance such as washing, cleaning, and testing equipment
• Check equipment for damage or needed repairs and keep management informed

Administrative

• Read and understand work paperwork and the tasks it requests
• Complete paperwork clearly and accurately, including operations documentation
• Mark freight with unit information, tally freight, and keep accurate records
• Read and follow Operations Procedures
• Work comfortably with the metric system

Safety

• Complete the PIT operator’s pre-operation inspection report before operating any equipment
• Confirm safe operating conditions before and during operation
• Know and follow the Safe Working Load limits of your equipment
• Inspect and understand rigging requirements

What You Bring

• Ability to read, write, and apply basic math
• Experience operating forklifts of various types and sizes
• Experience working in the hold of a ship (not required if you’re willing to be trained)
• Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely, and effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to obtain a TWIC card
• A team-first attitude and commitment to achieving operational goals

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift 90 lbs
• Able to work in dusty, dirty environments in all weather
• Able to perform tasks including kneeling, walking, crouching, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven surfaces

Work Attire

Report ready to work: work pants, work boots, and appropriate PPE (such as safety glasses or goggles and gloves), and be prepared to work outside in inclement weather.
