Employment Professionals is seeking a Safety Manager / Driver Recruiter for an established trucking company in St. James, Missouri. This position combines fleet safety oversight with recruiting, onboarding, and retaining qualified CDL drivers. This is an in-person role working directly with drivers, operations, and the maintenance shop to improve fleet safety, support DOT compliance, and keep equipment maintenance records current. We’re looking for someone who understands the trucking industry, communicates effectively with drivers, and can balance safety, recruiting, and maintenance coordination responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance · Oversee day-to-day driver safety programs and support compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations and company policies. · Maintain accurate driver qualification files and track licenses, medical certifications, and required documentation. · Monitor hours of service, ELD records, driver logs, and inspection reports; address concerns and follow up on corrective actions. · Review camera events and driving behavior, provide driver coaching, and coordinate safety training. · Coordinate drug and alcohol testing requirements and maintain related records. · Assist with accident investigations, incident documentation, and communication with management and insurance representatives. · Track safety performance, identify recurring issues, and recommend improvements. · Support audits and maintain organized, current compliance records. Maintenance Coordination & Tracking · Work directly with drivers, operations, and the shop to communicate and resolve equipment maintenance concerns.

· Track driver-reported equipment issues, repair status, and preventive maintenance schedules. · Follow up with the shop to ensure timely completion and documentation of repairs and inspections. · Maintain organized equipment maintenance records and track upcoming inspection deadlines. · Communicate equipment availability and outstanding maintenance concerns to operations to support safe dispatch planning. Driver Recruiting & Retention · Recruit qualified CDL-A drivers through job postings, referrals, outreach, and other recruiting sources. · Screen applications, conduct interviews, and clearly communicate job expectations and compensation information. · Coordinate employment verifications, driving record reviews, background checks, and other pre-employment requirements. · Manage the hiring process from initial contact through orientation and onboarding. · Work with operations to understand driver staffing needs and prioritize recruiting efforts. · Maintain regular contact with applicants and newly hired drivers. · Build relationships with current drivers, address concerns, and support retention. · Track recruiting activity, hiring results, and driver turnover. Qualifications · Previous experience in trucking safety, DOT compliance, driver recruiting, or a related transportation role. · Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, hours of service, and driver qualification requirements.

· Familiarity with fleet maintenance tracking, inspection requirements, and preventive maintenance scheduling. · Strong communication skills and the ability to coach drivers professionally and consistently. · Excellent organization, attention to detail, and follow-through. · Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion. · Comfortable using recruiting platforms, Microsoft Office, ELD systems, and fleet management software. · Experience with Motive and McLeod is a plus. Compensation: $50,000–$70,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Ideal Candidate You are approachable, dependable, and comfortable holding people accountable.
