About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established commercial truck equipment company in the Harahan area, is hiring an Installation Technician to join its upfitting team. The facility outfits commercial trucks with specialized bodies, electrical and lighting systems, and hydraulic equipment for work crews, utility fleets, and emergency responders. If you like working with your hands and seeing a finished truck roll out the door, this is a great fit.

Key Responsibilities

Custom Bodies & Layouts

• Mount and secure specialized truck bodies to commercial chassis
• Install underbody, topsider, and diamond tread toolboxes
• Fit ladder racks, trimmer racks, and other storage and carrying systems

Electrical & Lighting Systems

• Route and secure wiring on commercial vehicles
• Install LED floodlights, spotlights, and light bars
• Install and wire emergency lighting and siren equipment, including Federal Signal products
• Test all electrical installations for proper operation

Mechanical & Hydraulic Units

• Assemble and set up central hydraulic systems
• Install dump body vibrators
• Mount and set up vehicle-mounted utility equipment, such as sandbagging and spreading machines

General Duties

• Read and follow work orders, blueprints, and installation diagrams
• Drill, cut, fit, and fasten components using hand and power tools
• Perform quality checks before vehicles are released
• Keep the work area clean and organized and follow all shop safety procedures

Qualifications

Required

• Hands-on experience with mechanical installation, truck upfitting, fabrication, or similar work
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools
• Ability to read work orders and basic diagrams
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in shop conditions, including standing, bending, and climbing
• Reliable transportation and a dependable attendance record
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

Preferred

• Experience with 12V/24V wiring and vehicle electrical systems
• Experience with hydraulic systems and fittings
• Familiarity with emergency lighting and siren equipment
• Welding or basic fabrication skills
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
