Express Employment Professionals is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing/Estimator for a well-established manufacturing company in Hammond. This position combines purchasing, vendor relations, material procurement, and project estimating. The ideal candidate will have experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment and be comfortable reviewing drawings, sourcing materials, communicating with vendors, and preparing accurate customer quotes.

Key Responsibilities

• Review customer drawings, blueprints, and job specifications to determine material and manufacturing requirements.
• Purchase raw materials, components, and services from qualified vendors.
• Request and compare vendor pricing, lead times, and material availability.
• Communicate with vendors and customers by phone and email regarding pricing, specifications, orders, and project requirements.
• Prepare estimates and quotes for CNC machining, welding, waterjet cutting, and related manufacturing projects.
• Calculate material requirements, outside processing costs, and other project expenses.
• Work closely with shop and production teams to ensure purchased materials meet specifications.
• Track purchase orders, vendor commitments, and delivery schedules.
• Maintain accurate records and follow up on outstanding quotes and orders.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
• 1-2 years of experience estimating and quoting manufacturing or machining projects.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to professionally interact with customers and vendors by phone and email.
• Experience obtaining pricing, discussing material availability, and coordinating orders.
• Previous machine shop experience strongly preferred, especially with CNC machining, welding, or waterjet cutting.
• Knowledge of common metals, manufacturing materials, machining, and fabrication processes.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, quotes, and purchasing requests while meeting deadlines.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and follow-up skills.
• Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
• Team-oriented with a professional, respectful, and positive attitude.
