Position Overview

Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered trucks, equipment, and related systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related mechanical components using appropriate diagnostic tools and software.
• Service transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, wiring, sensors, and electronic control modules.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filters, lubrication, and fluid services.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain hydraulic systems on trucks and heavy equipment.
• Perform welding and fabrication work when qualified and as needed.
• Document repairs, parts used, service records, and additional maintenance needs.
• Maintain shop tools and work areas; follow safety procedures and communicate job progress to management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Knowledge of diesel diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and use scan tools.
• Ability to read service manuals, technical instructions, and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of brake, transmission, steering, and suspension systems; welding/fabrication skills preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and safe-work practices.

Physical Requirements & Expectations

Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, handle tools and parts, and work safely around shop machinery and equipment. Lifting assistance or equipment should be used when appropriate. Employees are expected to complete quality work, document services accurately, and follow company policies.

Employee Benefits & Work Schedule

• Vacation: After 1 year: 5 days; after 3 years: 10 days; after 10 years: 15 days; after 15 years: 20 days.
• Sick time: No paid sick time is provided.
• Major holidays off: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. (Holiday pay status is not specified.)
• Health insurance: Available after 90 days. The employer pays one-half of the lowest-cost employee health insurance premium. Dental and vision coverage are also available.
• Retirement: Employer matching contribution of up to 3%, subject to plan terms.
• Uniforms: Provided by the company.
• Lunch and breaks: Either a 1-hour lunch, or a 30-minute lunch with one 15-minute break before lunch and one 15-minute break after lunch.
• Tool allowance: $50 per month toward tools purchased through Snap-on.
• Year-end bonus: May be awarded to qualifying employees based on performance.
