Position Overview

Express Employment Professionals is partnering with an established heavy civil construction company seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and oversee safety operations across multiple active construction sites throughout Los Angeles and North Orange County.

This senior leadership position is responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a strong culture of workplace safety. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy civil construction, particularly underground utilities and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures.

• Oversee safety compliance across multiple active construction sites.

• Conduct site inspections, safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

• Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA, federal OSHA, and applicable safety regulations.

• Provide safety leadership and guidance to project managers, superintendents, and field personnel.

• Develop and conduct safety training programs to promote safe work practices.

• Identify potential hazards associated with trenching, excavation, shoring, confined spaces, and underground utilities.

• Maintain safety documentation, incident reports, and regulatory records.

• Monitor subcontractor safety compliance and coordinate with regulatory agencies.

• Implement corrective actions and preventative measures to minimize workplace incidents.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety Director (required).

• Extensive experience in heavy civil construction and underground utilities.

• Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA and federal OSHA regulations.

• Hands-on experience with trenching, excavation, shoring systems, confined spaces, and underground utility safety.

• Proven ability to develop and manage safety programs across multiple construction sites.

• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to travel regularly to active construction sites throughout Los Angeles and North Orange County.
