Schedule: Monday–Friday | 40 hours per week

About the Opportunity

We're partnering with an established local company seeking an experienced, motivated Diesel Mechanic to join its fleet maintenance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, takes pride in troubleshooting and solving problems, and wants to take ownership of their workspace.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who doesn't need to be told what to do next. There's always something to work on, and we're looking for someone who enjoys staying productive, taking initiative, and keeping equipment running safely and efficiently.

For a more experienced mechanic, this position offers the opportunity to take a lead role in the shop, helping prioritize repairs, coordinate daily work, and provide direction to another diesel technician.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel-powered commercial trucks, including refuse and dump trucks.

• Identify and resolve mechanical issues involving engines, braking systems, ABS, hydraulics, and related components.

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and routine repairs to minimize equipment downtime.

• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate repair solutions.

• Help organize and prioritize daily shop maintenance and repair activities.

• Provide guidance and support to another diesel technician as needed.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and work area.

• Communicate repair needs, equipment concerns, and maintenance progress to the Fleet Manager.

• Assist with maintenance and repairs on smaller equipment, such as forklifts and air compressors, when needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of diesel mechanic experience preferred, although candidates with less experience and strong mechanical abilities will be considered.

• Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing diesel trucks or similar heavy-duty equipment.

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

• Working knowledge of ABS, hydraulic systems, and general diesel maintenance.

• Ability to work independently, identify priorities, and take initiative without constant supervision.

• Strong organizational habits and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe work environment.

• Willingness and ability to help direct another technician and support shop operations.

• Experience with forklifts, air compressors, or small equipment maintenance is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay:

• $26.00–$32.00/hour for developing or intermediate-level mechanics.

• $32.00–$40.00/hour for experienced mechanics with advanced troubleshooting and shop leadership capabilities.
