  • Move freight to designated areas and stack it to supervisor specifications, using sound judgment.
  • Re-bundle and band broken bundles using proper tools and safety gear.
  • Load and unload trucks, containers, and railcars with the right size forklift, in a reasonable time.
  • Pull and stage or load freight from work orders, then sign off once every item is complete.
  • When required, tally loads before shipping, recording heat numbers and weights.
  • Help discharge vessels when needed, using a different assigned forklift until discharge is complete.

Equipment care

  • Inspect your forklift and complete a daily maintenance report.
  • Report any damage to your supervisor right away.
  • Fuel your forklift as needed.

Housekeeping and compliance

  • Keep your work area clear of trash, banding, and debris.
  • Support damage and loss control and the securing of facilities.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including advanced SDS (safety data sheet) training, material marking, and the grid system.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work: You’ll work outside in rain, snow, cold, and heat. Work pauses and crews stand by during lightning until it passes.
  • Indoor work: You may be assigned to the warehouse when the pier is slow.
  • Overtime: When a vessel is in, overtime is required as applicable, including possible Saturdays and Sundays. Shipping team members must finish loading all trucks before leaving.
  • Flexibility: Assignments can change from day to day.

Safety and Gear

  • Safety gear is required at all times on the job.
  • We provide hardhats, safety vests, gloves, and goggles as required, plus lockers with combination locks.
  • You provide uniforms, work boots, and rain or winter gear, and you must arrive to work properly dressed. All gear and clothing must be stored in your locker.

What You Bring

  • Several years of material handling experience, including operating 6,000-10,000 lb. Linde forklifts, with a clear understanding of your forklift’s capacity and limits.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills to complete tally sheets and loading manifests, load trucks from work orders, and identify material using discharge reports.
  • Ability to re-bundle ingots weighing up to 55 lbs. each and use banding tools.
  • Ability to handle ship’s gear, including pans, chains, nylon straps, copper and T-bar clamps, chockers, and cables.
  • A flexible, team-first attitude.
