Material Control Coordinator
Located in Hawthorne, CA
Salary: $22.00-$26.00 DOE
Salary Range: $22.00 - $26.00/hr (DOE)
Position Summary
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and high-energy Material Control Coordinator to manage the physical and digital flow of materials through our Aerospace & Defense precision CNC machine shop. In this dual-focus role, you will take direct ownership of our stockroom—specifically managing the inventory levels, staging, and material traceability of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) aerospace hardware, fasteners, and shop consumables—while also coordinating all inbound dock deliveries, outbound shipments, and a specialized inventory of excess machined parts and production overruns held for future sale.
The ideal candidate will have a sharp eye for engineering part numbers, enjoy maintaining an immaculate stockroom environment, and understand the absolute necessity of maintaining the perfect paperwork trail (Certificates of Conformance) required for flight-grade inventory.
Key Responsibilities
- COTS Hardware & Inventory Management: Organize, label, and optimize the hardware stockroom. Manage inventory levels of COTS items (e.g., MS/NAS/AN spec fasteners, O-rings, rivets, inserts); execute periodic cycle counts to ensure 100% inventory data accuracy
- Kitting & Staging: Pre-kit and stage COTS hardware, production supplies, and bill-of-materials components directly to active job travelers and shop routing bins to ensure final assembly / installation operations flow uninterrupted
- Excess Machined Parts Management: Establish, organize, and maintain a dedicated inventory zone for excess finished machined parts, overruns, and surplus inventory. Log these items accurately in the ERP system to ensure visibility for future sales and prevent mixed manufacturing batches
- Traceability Assurance: Ensure all inbound COTS hardware and raw materials are received alongside their mandatory quality records, including Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) and Material Test Reports (MTRs); safely file and log these records to support AS9100 traceability requirements
- Receiving & Material Inspection: Visually inspect packages for damage, verify piece counts against the packing slip, and process receipts inside the ERP system
- Forklift & Material Handling: Safely operate a forklift, pallet jack, and material carts to move heavy parts and storage bins throughout the warehouse and shop areas
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1–3+ years of material control, shipping/receiving, or warehouse inventory control experience inside a manufacturing, industrial, or machine shop setting (aerospace experience is heavily preferred)
- Data Literacy: Competent with digital inventory tracking, warehouse software, or standard manufacturing ERP systems (e.g., JobBOSS, or ProShop) along with basic Microsoft Excel
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, stand/walk on a concrete shop floor for the duration of a shift, and work safely around active machinery
- Regulatory Compliance: Due to defense manufacturing contracts, candidates must meet export control criteria and be "U.S. Persons" as defined by ITAR regulations (U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident)
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Active Forklift Operator Certification
- Familiarity identifying common aerospace hardware standards (e.g., NAS, MS, AN hardware callouts)
- Prior experience working within an AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management framework
We will consider all qualified applicants for employment, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local laws including the City of Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative Hiring Ordinance.
