About the Opportunity

Express Employment Professionals – Southeast Phoenix is partnering with a local organization to hire experienced Cooks for a busy, high-volume kitchen. This evaluation-to-hire opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy preparing quality meals, working in a professional kitchen, and being part of a team that takes pride in the food they serve.

We are seeking experienced cooks from high-volume, full-service restaurants, diners, hotels, and banquet kitchens who have a strong understanding of food preparation and kitchen operations. Qualified candidates should be skilled in following recipes, using proper cutting techniques, maintaining safe cooking and holding temperatures, and following food handling, storage, and sanitation standards.

The ideal candidate is confident using commercial kitchen equipment, can independently follow written recipes, and knows how to maintain quality and consistency during busy meal periods.

Cook Responsibilities

Prepare and cook a variety of meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and catered events.
Read, understand, and accurately follow recipes, cooking instructions, and portion guidelines.
Prepare ingredients using proper cutting, chopping, slicing, and food preparation techniques.
Operate grills, griddles, ovens, and other commercial kitchen equipment.
Prepare multiple dishes efficiently while maintaining food quality and presentation standards.
Monitor proper cooking, holding, cooling, and storage temperatures.
Follow food safety procedures, including proper food handling, labeling, storage, and prevention of cross-contamination.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure meals are prepared accurately and on time.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of consecutive professional cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen.
Experience in full-service restaurants, diners, hotels, banquet kitchens, or similar professional cooking environments.
Ability to independently read, understand, and follow written recipes.
Hands-on experience with grilling, sautéing, line cooking, or preparing meals to order.
Knowledge of proper food preparation, knife skills, cooking methods, and portion control.
Understanding of food safety, safe cooking temperatures, food storage, and sanitation procedures.
Ability to multitask and maintain quality during busy meal periods.
Open availability required, including weekends and holidays.
Valid Food Handler Card required.
Non-slip shoes required.
Must be willing to complete required tuberculosis (TB) screening and meet seasonal flu vaccination requirements, subject to applicable accommodations.
Dependable, professional, and committed to food quality, cleanliness, and safety.

Important: This position requires hands-on cooking experience beyond basic food assembly or reheating prepared foods. Candidates whose experience is limited to traditional fast-food preparation will not meet the qualifications for this position.
