 Machine Shop Cleaner / Shop Custodian

 

Department: Manufacturing / Production

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Pay: $21

 

Position Summary

The Machine Shop Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized CNC manufacturing environment. This position supports production operations by cleaning work areas, removing metal chips and debris, maintaining shop floors, assisting with waste disposal, and ensuring machinery and common areas meet cleanliness and safety standards.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  *   Clean and maintain CNC machine shop floors, walkways, and production areas.

  *   Sweep, mop, scrub, and remove metal shavings, chips, dust, and debris.

  *   Empty trash receptacles, scrap metal bins, and recycling containers.

  *   Clean machine exteriors, guards, windows, and surrounding workspaces.

  *   Dispose of waste materials in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.

  *   Refill shop supplies such as paper towels, soap, absorbents, and cleaning materials.

  *   Assist with coolant spill cleanup and other non-technical housekeeping tasks.

  *   Organize and maintain storage areas, tool cribs, and designated inventory locations.

  *   Follow all OSHA, company safety, and environmental procedures.

  *   Report safety hazards, equipment damage, or maintenance concerns to supervision.

  *   Support 5S and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain workplace organization.

  *   Perform other general labor and cleaning duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

  *   Previous industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, janitorial, or machine shop cleaning experience preferred.

  *   Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  *   Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.

  *   Reliable attendance and punctuality.

 

Physical Requirements

 

  *   Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  *   Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling.

  *   Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

  *   Comfortable working around machinery, noise, metal chips, lubricants, and industrial cleaning products.

  *   Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.

 

Work Environment

 

  *   Industrial manufacturing environment with CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.

  *   Exposure to coolant, oils, metal chips, dust, and moderate to high noise levels.

  *   Climate may vary depending on shop conditions.

 

Preferred Skills

 

  *   Experience working in a machine shop or manufacturing facility.

  *   Knowledge of industrial cleaning practices and safe chemical handling.

  *   Familiarity with 5S, Lean Manufacturing, or workplace organization principles.
