Cook – Healthcare Food Service

Express Employment Professionals is hiring an experienced and dependable Cook to support daily food preparation and meal service at a local healthcare facility. Cooks are responsible for preparing meals according to established recipes, following food safety and sanitation procedures, and ensuring meals are prepared accurately and on time. Candidates must have previous cooking experience, understand HACCP principles, food labeling and date marking requirements, and be able to read diet tickets written in English.

Pay Rate & Schedule

• Pay: $17/hour

• Hours: Shifts scheduled between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

• Availability: Must be available to work both morning and afternoon/evening shifts.

• Primary Staffing Needs: Evening shifts and weekends.

• Weekends: Required.

• Overtime: May be required.

• Breaks: One 30-minute unpaid break, as applicable.

Cook Job Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes, menus, and instructions.

• Follow recipes accurately and ensure food is prepared to the required quality standards.

• Read and follow diet tickets written in English to ensure meals are prepared according to specified dietary requirements.

• Follow HACCP principles and food safety procedures throughout food preparation and service.

• Properly handle, store, label, and date food items according to established procedures.

• Maintain proper food temperatures and follow safe food handling practices.

• Keep kitchen work areas, equipment, and food preparation surfaces clean and sanitary.

• Complete assigned cooking and food preparation tasks accurately and within established timeframes.

• Follow direction from kitchen management and coordinate with other food service team members.

• Practice proper portion control and use basic math and counting skills when preparing meals.

• Follow required sanitation procedures and wear appropriate uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Maintain compliance with facility food safety standards and applicable regulations.

Cook Work Environment

This position involves hands-on food preparation and institutional kitchen operations and may include:

• Working in a healthcare or institutional food service kitchen.

• Standing and walking for extended periods.

• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling.

• Working around hot cooking equipment, ovens, stovetops, and other kitchen appliances.

• Handling food products, kitchen utensils, and food preparation equipment.

• Following strict food safety, sanitation, and dietary preparation procedures.

• Working morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, including weekends.

• Wearing required uniforms and PPE while working in the kitchen.

Cook Qualifications

• Previous experience as a cook or in a related cooking role is required.

• Knowledge of basic food preparation principles and various cooking methods.

• Working knowledge of HACCP, food safety, sanitation, food storage, and date labeling procedures.

• Ability to read and follow recipes and diet tickets written in English.

• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.

• Basic math and counting skills for food preparation and portioning.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work cooperatively with kitchen and food service staff.

• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including extended standing and walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.

• Must be able to obtain the required food safety certification.

• Ability to follow facility policies, food safety standards, and sanitation procedures.

• Dependable attendance and flexibility to work morning and evening shifts, with availability on weekends.

Background Check Requirements

• A 7-year background check is required.

• Screening includes national criminal, county criminal, address history, SSN check, sex offender search, and global watchlist searches.
