HR Generalist / Payroll Analyst

Our Client in Tualatin is seeking an experienced HR Generalist / Payroll Analyst to join their Human Resources team supporting a heavy industrial operation.

 

This position combines hands-on payroll administration with broad HR generalist responsibilities. The successful candidate will process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 300 exempt and non-exempt employees, primarily in Oregon, while supporting benefits administration, employee leave, workers' compensation, onboarding, employee records, training coordination, and other HR initiatives.

 

This role supports a workforce made up primarily of skilled trades and blue-collar employees. The environment is fast-paced, direct, and highly operational, so the successful candidate must be comfortable working with a wide range of personalities, handling difficult conversations, maintaining composure under pressure, and communicating professionally in a straightforward work environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll for approximately 300 employees using ADP.

  • Review payroll information including hours worked, deductions, garnishments, paid time off, and employee changes.

  • Prepare custom payroll and labor reports for management.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel and HR records.

  • Coordinate pre-employment physicals and drug/alcohol screenings.

  • Coordinate new-hire start dates and assist with onboarding activities.

  • Support employee training coordination and other HR programs.

  • Process and track vacation, sick leave, and other employee leave requests.

  • Assist employees with Paid Leave Oregon requests and required documentation.

  • Process employee wage garnishments.

  • Review, complete, and submit workers' compensation claims.

  • Prepare workers' compensation payroll reports and assist with audits as required.

  • Coordinate with third-party administrators regarding employee benefit eligibility.

  • Provide benefit vendors with required documentation for Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, Life, and Disability claims.

  • Assist with tracking and reporting workplace safety metrics.

  • Maintain payroll and employee records in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws and recordkeeping requirements.

  • Participate in HR projects, recruiting activities, employee relations matters, and department initiatives.

  • Provide professional HR support to employees and supervisors across a heavy industrial workforce.

  • Handle sensitive or challenging employee conversations with confidence, discretion, and professionalism.

  • Assist with job fairs, recruiting presentations, company events, and other HR activities as needed.

  • Work occasional additional hours to support recruiting, employee events, or other HR initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Human Resources, payroll administration, or a combination of HR and payroll responsibilities.

  • Experience processing payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees.

  • Experience using ADP strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of payroll practices, employee recordkeeping, and wage and hour requirements.

  • Experience with benefits administration, employee leave, workers' compensation, and HR documentation preferred.

  • Familiarity with Oregon employment regulations and Paid Leave Oregon preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.

  • Accounting or payroll accounting experience is a plus.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

  • Ability to handle confidential employee information with professionalism and discretion.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment with a direct communication style.

  • Able to remain professional, confident, and composed during difficult or high-pressure conversations.

  • Strong judgment and the ability to establish credibility with both employees and leadership.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

An associate's or bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.

Work Environment

This position works in a professional HR setting within a heavy industrial facility. The role regularly interacts with production employees, skilled tradespeople, supervisors, managers, and outside vendors.

 

The work environment is fast-paced and operationally focused. Communication can be direct, and the successful candidate must be comfortable handling employee concerns, workplace issues, payroll questions, and challenging conversations while maintaining professionalism and appropriate HR boundaries.

 

Regular use of computers, payroll and HR systems, telephones, and standard office equipment is required. Occasional presence on the production floor may also be necessary.
