Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Position Overview

A commercial and industrial construction company in Shreveport is looking for an experienced Construction Lead Man / Field Lead to provide hands-on leadership to field crews on active projects.

This is a working leadership position that serves as the first level of field supervision for the crew. The Lead Man works under the direction of the Project Superintendent, carrying out the Superintendent’s daily plan, directing assigned employees, and communicating jobsite progress, needs, and issues back up the chain of command.

The Lead Man is expected to lead from the field—working alongside the crew while making sure employees understand their assignments and the work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Report directly to the Project Superintendent and follow established project plans and priorities

• Receive daily work assignments and direction from the Superintendent and communicate those expectations to the crew

• Lead and direct assigned laborers, helpers, and field employees

• Assign daily tasks and ensure crew members understand their responsibilities

• Work alongside the crew while providing hands-on leadership and direction

• Monitor employee productivity, workmanship, and adherence to project requirements

• Serve as the first point of leadership for routine questions and issues within the assigned crew

• Escalate project delays, material needs, safety concerns, personnel issues, and other significant problems to the Superintendent

• Communicate crew progress and completed work to the Superintendent

• Help coordinate tools, materials, and equipment needed to complete assigned work

• Review measurements, plans, and job requirements with the crew

• Coordinate with other trades on the jobsite as directed by the Superintendent

• Train and develop helpers, laborers, and less-experienced field employees

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

• Ensure assigned employees follow company and jobsite safety requirements

• Help keep daily work on schedule and identify potential problems before they impact the project

Chain of Command

The Lead Man reports directly to the Project Superintendent and provides day-to-day direction to assigned field employees. The Lead Man is responsible for executing the Superintendent’s plan at the crew level, maintaining communication between the crew and Superintendent, and escalating issues that require higher-level decisions or project authority.

Requirements

• Previous commercial or industrial construction experience required

• Previous experience leading a construction crew of 10 or more employees required

• Proven ability to assign work, provide direction, and maintain productivity across a field crew

• Ability to lead employees while remaining actively involved in the work

• Ability to take direction from the Superintendent and translate that direction into daily crew assignments

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• Ability to read measurements, plans, and project information

• Comfortable working on active commercial and industrial jobsites

• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, or elevated areas when required

• Valid driver's license required

• Dependable attendance and strong jobsite leadership skills

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction professional who understands the difference between leading the crew and running the entire project. This person should be comfortable taking direction from the Superintendent, taking ownership of the crew’s daily execution, and keeping information moving both up and down the chain of command.
