ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

AI Implementation and Training

  1. Works within each department on a rotating basis, including purchasing, sales, estimating, detailing, production, shipping, accounting, human resources and safety, to learn current processes.
  2. Identifies tasks suitable for AI or automation and ranks them by expected return.
  3. Develops, configures and deploys AI tools and automated workflows, such as supplier portal purchasing, quoting and takeoff assistance, mill test report filing, invoice matching and management reporting.
  4. Integrates AI tools with company systems, including the ERP and QuickBooks.
  5. Trains employees individually and in groups, and provides ongoing user support.
  6. Prepares written procedures and user instructions for each tool deployed.
  7. Develops and maintains the company AI use policy, including rules for handling company, customer and employee data.
  8. Measures and documents the results of each project, including hours saved, errors reduced and cost impact.
  9. Reports project status and results to management monthly.
  10. Evaluates new AI products and vendors and recommends purchases.

IT Support

  1. Serves as first point of contact for employee technology problems at all company locations.
  2. Installs, configures and repairs computers, phones, printers, tablets and shop floor devices.
  3. Creates, modifies and disables user accounts, email and system access for new, transferring and departing employees.
  4. Provides user-level support for Microsoft 365, the ERP, QuickBooks and other business software.
  5. Troubleshoots basic network and wireless connectivity problems.
  6. Maintains an inventory of hardware, software and licenses.
  7. Carries out security practices, including updates, backups, multi-factor authentication and phishing awareness.
  8. Coordinates with outside IT vendors and escalates problems beyond the scope of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in IT support, systems administration or a similar technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot) to business tasks.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, Google Business and basic networking.
  • Ability to learn business processes quickly and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to explain technical subjects clearly to non-technical employees.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities and manage several projects at once.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of company, customer and employee information.

Preferred

  • Experience with scripting or automation (Python, Power Automate, SQL or APIs).
  • Experience with an ERP or accounting system.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, construction or the steel industry.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is performed in an office setting and in active steel fabrication and warehouse areas. Required personal protective equipment must be worn in production areas.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to operate computer equipment.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, and to reach, bend or kneel to install equipment.

Regular Travel to Bessember, AL to other plant.
