Millwright 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on sawmill and lumber-processing equipment.
  • Install, repair, replace, and maintain conveyors, rollers, chains, sprockets, pulleys, bearings, shafts, and couplings.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot headrigs, resaws, edgers, trimmers, debarkers, chippers, planers, and other sawmill equipment.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems throughout the mill.
  • Perform precision alignment of shafts, motors, gearboxes, pulleys, and other rotating equipment.
  • Replace and repair bearings, belts, chains, gears, seals, sprockets, and other mechanical components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns and respond quickly to equipment failures to minimize production downtime.
  • Assist with the installation, removal, and relocation of large sawmill machinery and production equipment.
  • Perform rigging and safely move heavy equipment using cranes, hoists, chain falls, come-alongs, and other lifting equipment.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, equipment manuals, and layouts.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and cutting and grinding equipment.
  • Assist with scheduled mill shutdowns, maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and major repairs.
  • Inspect machinery for wear, damage, vibration, overheating, misalignment, and other signs of mechanical failure.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following company, OSHA, and site-specific safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or Maintenance Mechanic, preferably in a sawmill, lumber-processing facility, manufacturing plant, or other heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, motors, chains, sprockets, and rotating equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, blueprints, layouts, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience performing rigging and material-handling operations safely.
  • Ability to properly use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong understanding of industrial and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to identify mechanical problems and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a maintenance team.
  • Ability to respond effectively to equipment breakdowns in a fast-paced production environment.
