Warehouse Operations Manager

Location: Mountainside, NJ
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday

Position Overview

Express Employment Professionals is recruiting an experienced Warehouse Operations Manager for a well-established company in Mountainside, NJ.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for running the warehouse operation from top to bottom. The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing warehouse personnel, training and developing employees, inventory and ordering, shipping and receiving, operational costs, and overall warehouse performance.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the operation, establish accountability, improve processes, and ensure the warehouse runs efficiently, safely, and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory, order fulfillment, shipping, and returns.

  • Lead, train, coach, and develop warehouse employees to improve productivity, accuracy, safety, and accountability.

  • Establish clear expectations, procedures, and performance standards for warehouse personnel.

  • Manage employee scheduling, workload distribution, attendance, and staffing requirements.

  • Oversee the onboarding and training of new warehouse employees.

  • Manage purchasing and ordering of warehouse materials, supplies, and other operational needs.

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments and ensure orders are shipped accurately and on schedule.

  • Oversee receiving procedures and ensure incoming products are properly inspected, documented, and stored.

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and implement effective inventory-control procedures.

  • Conduct cycle counts and physical inventories and investigate inventory discrepancies.

  • Work closely with vendors, carriers, customers, and internal departments to resolve shipping, receiving, and inventory issues.

  • Monitor warehouse expenses and identify opportunities to control costs and improve efficiency.

  • Understand and manage warehouse-related P&L responsibilities, including labor costs, freight, supplies, inventory losses, and other operating expenses.

  • Develop and track KPIs related to productivity, labor, inventory accuracy, shipping accuracy, on-time performance, and operational costs.

  • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements throughout the warehouse.

  • Ensure equipment, forklifts, loading areas, and warehouse facilities are properly maintained.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable OSHA and workplace safety requirements.

  • Partner with senior management on budgeting, staffing, purchasing, and operational planning.

  • Take full ownership of warehouse performance and proactively address problems before they impact customers or operations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of warehouse operations experience, preferably in a leadership or management capacity.

  • Previous experience managing an entire warehouse operation strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience training, coaching, and managing warehouse employees.

  • Strong knowledge of shipping, receiving, inventory control, purchasing, and order fulfillment.

  • Experience managing budgets, operating expenses, and/or warehouse P&L.

  • Strong understanding of inventory-management and warehouse-management systems.

  • Experience working with freight carriers, vendors, and suppliers.

  • Ability to analyze operational data and use KPIs to improve performance.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

  • Comfortable working both in an office environment and directly on the warehouse floor.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Forklift and material-handling equipment knowledge preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is not someone who simply supervises warehouse employees. We are looking for an experienced warehouse leader who understands the entire operation—from purchasing and receiving through inventory, staffing, fulfillment, shipping, and financial performance.

This person should be comfortable walking the warehouse floor, training employees, solving operational problems, reviewing inventory and shipping performance, and then sitting down to review labor costs, expenses, and P&L performance with management.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will bring a combination of:

Leadership + Warehouse Operations + Inventory Management + Shipping/Receiving + Purchasing + Staff Development + Cost Control + P&L Responsibility

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced warehouse professional who wants the responsibility and authority to own the operation and make it better.
