Our client is an established furniture reupholstery shop specializing in custom furniture restoration, modification, and repair. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on woodworker or finish carpenter to join our furniture workroom. This position focuses on furniture and detailed woodworking projects.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have strong woodworking skills and experience working with finished furniture, cabinetry, millwork, or other precision woodworking applications. This role involves modifying existing furniture, fabricating custom wood components, and performing repair work while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Modify and repair wood furniture to customer specifications.
- Shorten, resize, and alter furniture components while maintaining structural integrity and a professional finished appearance.
- Measure, cut, and fabricate custom wood parts and subcomponents for furniture projects.
- Create circular and custom-shaped wood pieces for table bases and other furniture applications.
- Accurately cut and shape plywood, hardwoods, and other furniture-grade materials.
- Sand, finish, and prepare cut edges and surfaces for upholstery and final assembly.
- Collaborate with upholsterers and shop team members to complete furniture restoration and modification projects.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Qualifications
- Experience as a woodworker, cabinetmaker, finish carpenter, furniture maker, millworker, or related trade.
- Strong understanding of precise measuring, layout, cutting, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to work carefully with finished furniture and high-value pieces.
- Proficiency operating woodworking equipment, including:
- Table saws
- Miter saws
- Circular saws
- Jigsaws and bandsaws
- Routers
- Sanders and other woodworking tools
- Ability to read measurements accurately and maintain tight tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with furniture repair, restoration, or custom furniture manufacturing.
- Familiarity with upholstery processes and furniture construction.
- Experience working in a furniture, cabinet shop, millwork, or woodworking production environment.
