Manufacturing facility providing strict plating requirements of the aerospace and aircraft overhaul industries is seeking a Quality Manager to join their team in Sun Valley.
Summary: The Quality Manager is responsible for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA Repair Station requirements, and customer/regulatory approvals. This role oversees all quality-related activities for aerospace plating, chemical processing, and nondestructive testing (NDT), ensuring product conformity, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction. The position requires strong leadership in process control, special processes, inspection systems, and audit readiness within a highly regulated aerospace environment.
Responsibilities
- QMS Leadership & Compliance
- Maintain and improve the QMS in accordance with:
- AS9100 / ISO 9001
- FAA Repair Station requirements
- NADCAP (as applicable for special processes)
- Ensure compliance with customer approvals (e.g., Boeing, Parker, Moog)
- Serve as the Management Representative for quality system effectiveness
- Lead Management Review, including KPI performance and risk evaluation
- Operational Quality Oversight
- Oversee quality assurance for:
- Chemical processing (plating, coatings, surface treatment)
- NDT processes (e.g., penetrant, magnetic particle, etch inspection)
- Ensure compliance with process specifications, work instructions, and special process controls.
- Drive process validation, first article inspection (FAI), and process capability monitoring
- Inspection & Testing
Manage:
- Receiving inspection.
- In-process inspection.
- Final inspection and release. (8130-3 / airworthiness documentation as applicable)
- Ensure measurement traceability and calibration system compliance.
- Approve inspection techniques and acceptance criteria.
- Audit & Regulatory Interface.
Support:
- Internal audits. (AS9100 / ISO / FAA)
- External audits. (customers, registrars, NADCAP)
- Act as primary contact for regulatory authorities and customers during audits.
- Ensure closure of audit findings with effective corrective actions.
- Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement.
Manage:
- NCR system. (internal/external)
- Root cause analysis. (RCCA, 8D, 5-Why)
- Corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor the effectiveness of actions and drive systemic improvements.
- Utilize KPI data. (OTD, quality escapes, rework, scrap, customer complaints)
Supplier Quality:
- Oversee supplier approval and performance monitoring.
- Ensure flow-down of requirements for: Special processes, NDT, Plating specifications, Manage supplier corrective, actions and risk-based controls.
Training & Competency:
- Ensure personnel qualification and certification for: NDT (Level I/II/III as applicable), Special processes, Inspection activities.
- Support the maintenance of the training records and competency matrices.
- Documentation & Configuration Control.
- Ensure control of: Procedures, work instructions, and technical data, Customer specifications and revisions.
- Prevent use of obsolete documentation and ensure traceability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field. (preferred)
- 5 to 10+ years in aerospace quality systems.
- Experience in chemical processing/plating. (highly preferred)
- NDT operations. (Level II or equivalent experience preferred)
- FAA Repair Station or aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of, AS9100 / ISO 9001, FAA regulations (Part 145 preferred), NADCAP requirements (preferred), Root cause analysis tools, KPI development and data analysis, Audit management systems.
