Technical Specialist – Automotive Transmissions

Location: Wheeling, IL
Pay: Up to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM

We are seeking a technically minded and customer-focused Technical Specialist to support customers with automotive transmission troubleshooting, installation questions, warranty claims, and product orders. This role combines automotive technical support, customer service, warranty administration, and inside sales in a primarily office-based environment.

The ideal candidate has automotive experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to resolve customer concerns while coordinating with sales, manufacturing, and service teams.

Responsibilities:

• Assist customers with transmission diagnostics, troubleshooting, and installation-related questions.
• Evaluate warranty claims and determine appropriate solutions, including replacement transmissions, individual parts, and labor reimbursements.
• Explain warranty policies and procedures while professionally resolving customer concerns.
• Review and negotiate warranty labor credits and reimbursement amounts within established guidelines.
• Follow up with customers to ensure issues are resolved and customer satisfaction is maintained.
• Document warranty claims, repairs, replacements, and sales orders in NetSuite.
• Identify recurring product failures and communicate findings to manufacturing and management.
• Communicate warranty teardown analysis results and recommend solutions to prevent repeat issues.
• Assist customers with product questions, sales calls, quotes, and order processing.
• Maintain technical documentation, service provider relationships, and accurate product catalog information.
• Provide occasional on-site technical assistance and represent the company at trade shows or customer meetings.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical education preferred.
• At least 2 years of automotive experience.
• Knowledge of automotive diagnostics and repair; transmission experience is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle difficult customer situations professionally and negotiate solutions.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; experience with NetSuite is a plus.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based, with occasional time spent in a manufacturing environment to assist with product failure analysis. Occasional local travel within approximately 100 miles may be required, with total travel up to 10%.

Compensation & Schedule

• $22.75–$25.00 per hour, based on experience
• Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
