About the Job
Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a locally owned organization in Olympia, WA, to find their next Operations & HR Manager.
This is a key management position combining financial oversight, business operations, and Human Resources administration. The largest component of the role will be working closely with ownership, an outside bookkeeper, and CPA to review financial information, monitor business performance, maintain management reporting, and help leadership make informed decisions around growth and profitability.
The position will also coordinate the company’s HR processes and oversee a variety of operational and administrative responsibilities. The ideal candidate is a business-minded professional who enjoys working in a small company environment, wearing multiple hats, solving problems, and moving comfortably between financial reporting, HR administration, operations, and special projects.
You do not need to be a CPA, but you should be comfortable reviewing financial reports, asking questions, identifying trends, and using financial information to help leadership understand how the business is performing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review monthly financial statements, management reports, and key business metrics
• Monitor revenue, expenses, payroll, profitability, and cash flow
• Analyze trends and identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational performance
• Develop and maintain KPI reporting and management dashboards
• Assist ownership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
• Review performance across multiple areas of the business
• Monitor commissions, bonuses, and compensation-related records
• Identify errors, unusual activity, missing information, or financial risks requiring attention
• Partner with the company’s outside bookkeeper and CPA to support accurate and timely financial reporting
• Track recurring expenses, subscriptions, insurance, licenses, vendors, and other business obligations
• Coordinate recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding activities
• Maintain personnel files, employment records, HR policies, forms, and procedures
• Coordinate employee benefits administration and required employment documentation
• Track employee training, certifications, and performance review schedules
• Support managers with performance management, employee development, coaching, and corrective action processes
• Coordinate with employment counsel and outside professional advisors when needed
• Supervise an administrative support employee and help prioritize workload and responsibilities
• Improve administrative systems, workflows, and processes
• Coordinate vendors, service providers, office operations, software subscriptions, and company records
• Track important renewals, licenses, insurance, and deadlines
• Coordinate special projects and assist leadership with implementing strategic priorities
What You Bring:
• 5+ years of experience in business operations, accounting, finance, HR administration, office management, or a related role
• Experience working within a small business environment
• Strong financial reporting and analytical skills
• Experience reviewing financial statements and management reports
• Ability to understand business performance, identify trends, and recognize areas requiring additional attention
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing demands
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and follow-through
• Strong attention to detail
• High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential business and employee information
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and SharePoint
• Experience with financial reporting or bookkeeping oversight is preferred
• QuickBooks Online experience is a plus
• Payroll and benefits administration experience is preferred
• HR administration experience is preferred
• Experience working with outside CPAs, attorneys, or other professional advisors is a plus
• SHRM, PHR, bookkeeping, accounting, or other business-related credentials are a plus
