Maintenance Tech / Fabricator

Salary: $19 to $25 DOE
Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician/Fabricator is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and fabricating equipment, machinery, and production support systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, welding and fabrication skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical equipment failures.
- Fabricate machine guards, platforms, brackets, carts, conveyors, and other custom components from engineering drawings or field measurements.
- Operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, and Stick) and metal fabrication tools including saws, grinders, drills, presses, shears.
- Install, align, and modify production equipment to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Perform equipment installations, machine relocations, and production line modifications.
- Inspect equipment and identify potential issues before they result in downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts usage.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Assist with continuous improvement projects and process enhancements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and power transmission components.
- MIG welding and Stick welding experience preferred.
- Experience operating fabrication equipment safely and accurately.
- Ability to read blueprints and fabricate parts to specification.
- Basic understanding of electrical troubleshooting, including motors, sensors, relays, and variable frequency drives (VFDs), is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Comfortable working around moving machinery, loud environments, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in an industrial manufacturing environment and requires adherence to all safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
