Mechanical Assembler / Plasma Operator

Location: Monroe, NC
Pay Rate: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Schedule: 1st Shift Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined individual to join our client's manufacturing team in Monroe, NC. This unique role combines mechanical assembler and plasma machine operator, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates who enjoy hands-on work, manufacturing environments, and opportunities for growth.

The ideal candidate will have basic mechanical aptitude, experience using hand and power tools, and the ability to learn machine operation processes. While prior plasma or press brake experience is beneficial, the company is willing to train the right candidate.

This position offers the opportunity to eventually take ownership of the plasma department and grow into a leadership role within the operation.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Assembly

• Assemble industrial equipment and components using work orders and assembly instructions.
• Install motors, blowers, disconnects, contactors, overloads, and related mechanical components onto pre-built assemblies.
• Perform mechanical assembly using hand and power tools, including drills and fastening equipment.
• Read and follow work orders to ensure components are assembled correctly.
• Work closely with the electrical department, which will perform all wiring and electrical connections.
• Verify quality and accuracy throughout the assembly process.

Plasma Machine Operation

• Retrieve and load production jobs from the computerized work order system.
• Pull pre-programmed cutting files based on work order numbers.
• Load metal sheets onto the plasma cutting table.
• Start and monitor the plasma cutting process.
• Remove finished parts from the machine after cutting is complete.
• Sort and dispose of scrap material into designated bins.
• Transfer finished parts to the press brake department for forming and bending operations.
• Maintain a safe and organized work area.

Press Brake Operation

• Operate a press brake machine to bend and form cut metal components.
• Follow work instructions and quality standards to ensure accurate finished parts.
• Perform basic machine setup and operation as trained.

Qualifications

Required

• Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with assembly work.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and follow work orders.
• Comfortable lifting, moving, and handling sheet metal materials.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

• Manufacturing or production experience.
• Mechanical assembly experience.
• Plasma cutting machine experience.
• Press brake operation experience.
• Experience working with sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• Leadership potential and desire to grow into increased responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently lift and move materials throughout the shift.
