Job Description

Express Employment Professionals is seeking an experienced Hospital Cook / Food Service Cook for a healthcare facility in Elizabeth, NJ.

The ideal candidate will have experience preparing meals in a high-volume kitchen, hospital, healthcare facility, cafeteria or institutional food service environment. This position requires strong food safety knowledge, attention to detail and the ability to prepare quality meals while following established recipes and dietary guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and portion meals according to established recipes, menus and dietary requirements.

• Assist with breakfast, lunch and dinner meal preparation as assigned.

• Follow specific dietary instructions, including modified diets and portion-control requirements.

• Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.

• Maintain proper food temperatures, storage procedures and sanitation standards.

• Ensure food quality, presentation and consistency.

• Assist with food preparation, inventory rotation and proper food storage.

• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils and workstations.

• Follow all food safety, infection control and healthcare facility procedures.

• Work closely with dietary and food service staff to ensure timely meal preparation.

Qualifications

• Previous cooking experience in a commercial or high-volume kitchen required.

• Hospital, nursing home, healthcare or institutional food service experience strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation and proper food-handling procedures.

• Ability to follow recipes, portion guidelines and special dietary instructions.

• Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment.

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical kitchen duties.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Dependable, punctual and comfortable working as part of a team.

• ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

Candidates with previous experience as a Hospital Cook, Dietary Cook, Institutional Cook, Cafeteria Cook, Healthcare Cook or Food Service Cook are strongly encouraged to apply.
