Position Summary

Our client is seeking a Process Engineer to support and improve manufacturing processes within a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment.

 

The Process Engineer will work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), printed circuit boards, box-build assemblies, and related electronic products.

 

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on New Product Introduction (NPI), process optimization, production troubleshooting, quality improvement, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be comfortable working on the production floor, analyzing manufacturing issues, developing practical solutions, and supporting projects from development through production.

Key Responsibilities

Process Engineering & Manufacturing Support

• Develop, implement, and improve manufacturing processes for electronic assemblies, including PCB/CCA and box-build products.
• Provide day-to-day engineering support to Production and Manufacturing teams to resolve process-related issues.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and perform root-cause analysis to identify and address recurring issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, quality, throughput, and process reliability.
• Analyze production data and performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, process specifications, and other technical documents.
• Support the development and implementation of manufacturing cells, tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
• Assist Production teams with technical questions related to manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Monitor process performance and recommend adjustments to improve consistency and productivity.

New Product Introduction

• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from design review through production launch.
• Work with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure new products are manufacturable and production-ready.
• Review product designs, drawings, bills of materials, and related documentation for manufacturability.
• Identify potential manufacturing risks and recommend solutions during the NPI process.
• Develop manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling, fixtures, and equipment requirements for new products.
• Support prototype builds, pilot runs, First Article builds, process validation, and production ramp-up.
• Monitor new products during initial production and help resolve manufacturing issues.

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction, and process reliability.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement techniques where appropriate.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, cycle time, defects, rework, and manufacturing costs.
• Support corrective and preventive action initiatives related to manufacturing processes.
• Evaluate new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and methods that may improve production performance.
• Work with Production and Quality teams to establish and monitor process performance metrics.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure manufacturing processes meet established quality requirements and company standards.
• Support process validation, inspection, testing, and quality improvement activities.
• Work with Quality to investigate non-conformances, production defects, and customer-related quality issues.
• Assist with corrective and preventive action activities and follow up on the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
• Maintain manufacturing processes and documentation in accordance with applicable company and industry standards.
• Support compliance with relevant IPC, J-STD, ISO, and other applicable manufacturing standards.

Engineering Projects

• Participate in manufacturing engineering and process improvement projects from planning through implementation.
• Develop project timelines, technical requirements, and implementation plans with support from senior engineering staff.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, suppliers, and other stakeholders to implement process improvements.
• Support the selection, installation, commissioning, and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
• Provide technical input for equipment, tooling, and process-related CAPEX requirements.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation and project records.

Systems & Technical Support

• Maintain working knowledge of manufacturing systems, including PLM and MES platforms.
• Support the use and improvement of manufacturing data and process-control systems.
• Use Microsoft Office and other engineering tools to analyze data, prepare reports, and document process improvements.
• Provide engineering support during production escalations and assist with resolving high-impact manufacturing issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related role, preferably within an electronics manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience with PCB/CCA assembly, electronics manufacturing, and/or box-build manufacturing processes is preferred.
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and transitioning products from development into production.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, process optimization, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience with root-cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
• Ability to develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and process specifications.
• Experience working with manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, or automated production processes.
• Working knowledge of PLM and/or MES systems is an asset.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma principles is an asset.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and other technical documentation.
• Good project management and organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams.
• Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments is an asset.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, IPC, and J-STD standards is an asset.
• Must be able to clear the SECURITY CLEARANCE to work in DEFENSE/AEROSPACE industries.
