Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Location: Calvert City, KY
Pay: $26.92 per hour
Schedule: Full time; overtime available

Express Employment Professionals is seeking an experienced Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic for a coal terminal in Calvert City. This position focuses on keeping the terminal’s mobile equipment safe, reliable, and ready for work.

We are looking for a mechanic who can diagnose problems, make effective repairs, and work independently in an active industrial environment. The right person understands that a thorough inspection and a lasting repair matter just as much as getting a machine running again.

What you’ll do

Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair mobile heavy equipment used in terminal operations.
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, and drivetrain problems.
Perform preventive maintenance, including fluid and filter changes, lubrication, inspections, and adjustments.
Repair or replace worn or damaged components such as hoses, pumps, cylinders, brakes, bearings, belts, and starters.
Use diagnostic equipment, service manuals, schematics, and your own mechanical knowledge to identify the cause of equipment failures.
Complete repairs in the shop or in the field, depending on where the equipment is located and what the work requires.
Test equipment after repairs and communicate any remaining concerns before it returns to service.
Document maintenance and repair work accurately.
Coordinate with operators and the maintenance team to understand equipment issues and prioritize repairs.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow site procedures when equipment must be taken out of service.

What we’re looking for

Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile equipment.
Strong troubleshooting skills across diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
Ability to read service information and work through a problem without relying on guesswork.
Experience using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment.
Ability to perform both routine maintenance and more involved repairs.
Sound judgment about when equipment is safe to operate and when it needs further attention.
Dependability, clear communication, and a willingness to work overtime when needed.

Experience with equipment used in bulk material handling or other industrial environments is a plus.

Work environment and safety

This role involves working around heavy equipment in an active coal terminal. Work may take place outdoors, in a maintenance shop, or at an equipment location on site. Candidates should be comfortable working in changing weather conditions and following the terminal’s equipment isolation, lifting, and safety procedures.

Steel toe boots are required. Additional site-specific protective equipment and training requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.
