Shipping Clerk

General Summary: 

• In conformance with established policies, practices and standard operating procedures, ensure all shipments are received the proper labeling and postal charges and are packaged to arrive safely. In addition, practice exceptional customer service when interacting with other companies and clients, ensuring that all external parties receive a positive interaction.

Essential Job Functions: (Applicant/Employee must have the ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodations.)

1. Prepares shipments for postal or commercial conveyance per packaging SOP
2. Prepares Haz-Mat shipments commercial conveyance per IATA/49CFR requirements
3. Prepares manual and electronic software bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against available paperwork including but not limited to; Sales Order, Purchase Order and Email to ascertain that the items, quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
4. Communicates as needed with the Receiving Clerk, Purchasing, Sales, Customer Service, Production and Management verbally and via email to ensure needed information is communicated effectively and timely.
5. Initiate traces for lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof-of-delivery documents. Communicate accurate information to Department Manager.
6. Work and communicate effectively and successfully with third parties including but not limited to; truck drivers, parcel truck drivers, shipping clerks, logistics companies and various government agencies having jurisdiction.
7. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, and safety, environmental policies, and procedures.
8. Accurately perform inventory on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities Required:

1.  Successfully complete IATA and DOT certifications.
2. Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
3. Ability to effectively use a computer and learn shipping software.
4. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
5. Ability to correctly fill out documents to ship orders.
6. Ability to correctly label all hazmat shipments to DOT/IATA regulations.
7. Ability to correctly fill out international documents as required.
8. Ability to maintain records on outgoing shipments.
9. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork/record-keeping.
10. Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers/documentation.
11. Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
12. Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
13. Ability to develop knowledge of commercial shipping methods and procedures.
14. Maintain a clean and organized work area and work equipment.

Physical Requirements:

1.  Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
2. Operate dolly, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. may assist in routine maintenance of equipment and shipping area.
3. Lifting 50 lbs. containers regularly.  Lift boxes, bottles, and/or bags.
4. Standing and/or walking most of the workday.
5. Good manual dexterity, strength, endurance, and flexibility.
6. Ability to lift weight above head when required.

Working Conditions:

1. Exposure to hazardous and toxic substances
2. Ability to work where there are loud noises (conforming to OSHA and Company hearing and safety practices).
3. Conduct moderate to strenuous work under potentially hazardous conditions.
