The Fleet Manager directs, plans, and coordinates all operations of the municipal fleet department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance of diverse city vehicles and related assets. This role is responsible for overall management, budget and asset oversight, staffing, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Primary assets include complex heavy-duty waste haulers, vacuum trucks, and specialized police emergency vehicles. Supervising a team of highly skilled mechanics (including diesel, master, and heavy equipment mechanics), the Fleet Manager oversees preventive maintenance programs, repairs, inspections, parts inventory, vendors, and fleet records. Serving as the municipality’s technical resource, the manager must possess strong mechanical knowledge to evaluate repair needs, diagnose problems, and manage complex fleet operations. 

QUALIFICATIONS
5 to 10 years of experience as a Fleet Manager for a large dealership, City or municipality. Experience managing a municipal, government, public works, utility, or similarly complex fleet of vehicles and machinery. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Automotive Technology Management. Experience with diesel engines, gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, braking systems, suspension systems, and computerized vehicle diagnostics. Experience maintaining heavy trucks, dump trucks, utility vehicles, emergency vehicles, construction equipment, or other municipal equipment.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
ASE Master Automotive Technician with all certifications active, CDL A License with Hazmat and Tanker endorsement.  

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), Certified Automotive Fleet Supervisor (CAFS), APWA Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP). ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Technician, ASE School Bus Technician.
