Safety Manager

Job Summary:
The Safety Manager will work with and through management, to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures and to assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements. Will be required to review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.  

Responsibilities:
•    Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including OSHA, EPA/MDEQ.
•    Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste program, including generation, accumulation, handling, storage, and disposal.
•    Develop and provide safety and environmental training programs in accordance with 40 CFR 261.3.
o    Develop and implement training and response programs to ensure safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials/waste.
o    Develops programs for the safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of chemical and radioactive materials.
•    Maintain accurate and complete records of all environmental, health, and safety activities, including training records, inspection logs, and incident reports in accordance with 40 CFR 262.    
•    Performs safety inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
•    Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management. 
•    Coordinate programs regarding hazardous chemicals and other substances in accordance with 40 CFR 260-273.
•    Manage toxic substances programs and other regulated waste streams (e.g., used oil, universal waste) to maintain full compliance. 
•    Develop and maintain programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, air quality and ventilation surveys in accordance with 40 CFR 262-265.
•    Inspect facility to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies.
•    Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120.
•    Perform hazardous waste determinations, apply waste codes, and ensure accurate tracking and manifest preparation for all waste streams.
•    Maintain inventories of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes, to ensure that materials are handled properly in accordance with EPA/MDEQ and OSHA.

•    Oversee the management of waste accumulation areas (e.g., satellite and central accumulation areas), ensuring containers are properly labeled, stored, and inspected according to RCRA requirements.
•    Maintains current knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, updating response plans to comply with new regulations and amendments.
•    Stay up-to-date on all new and existing EPA and other environmental regulations and communicate updates to employees and management.
•    Act as the primary point of contact and liaison for regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA) during inspections and site audits.
•    Complete all necessary environmental permit applications, renewals, and reporting requirements (e.g., air permits, wastewater, stormwater).
•    Develop, maintain, and implement plans such as the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) plan and the facility's Contingency Plan. 
•    Prepare and submit required federal, state, and local reports to the EPA, including biennial/annual hazardous waste reports.
•    Act as the primary point of contact and liaison for regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA) during inspections and site audits.

Education/Experience Requirements:
Minimum of Associate Degree
Minimum of 5-years’ experience in safety or related field
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other databased systems

OSHA 10 (3 years)
OSHA 30 (3 years)
First Aid CPR w/AED (2 years)
Hazardous Materials Awareness (HAZCOM) (annually)
RCRA Hazardous Waste Management (annually)
Hazmat Ground Shipper (DOT) (annually)
HAZWOPER-40 HR
HAZWOPER-8 HR (annual refresher)
