Fabrication Lead

Fabrication Lead Job Summary:

 

A growing steel supplier in Grand Rapids is seeking a Fabrication Lead to join their team. The Fabrication Lead is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the production team while ensuring work is completed according to the production schedule. This role communicates scheduling concerns to the Plant Manager, assists with quality inspections, receives and organizes incoming materials and parts, and helps maintain a safe and efficient work environment by following and enforcing established safety procedures.

 

Shop Foreman Responsibilities:

• Controls workflow by material handling with overhead crane
• Able to operate all yard equipment
• Directs workload per employee capabilities
• Sits in on weekly production meeting
• Manages shop floor space with current workload
• Reviews prints prior to fabrication looking for galvanized, oversize, CJP (complete joint penetration) or any other out-of-ordinary work
• Receives daily parts shipments and organizes parts for production
• Checks in finished prints, marks traveler, files in job specific box when completed
• Provides guidance with fabrication and welding techniques
• Performs quality checks
• Helps schedule weld inspections
• Communicates with Project Management and job captains on project-related questions and detailing
• Fills in for plant manager during absences
• Process releases for purchasing
• Helps enforce company/safety policies and procedures
• Responsible for shift production
• Responsible for securing shop at shift end
• Disciplines plant personnel as necessary
• Provide appropriate instruction and/or training resources to Department personnel
• Monitor and direct the day-to-day activities of Department personnel

 

Schedule and Pay:

• 2nd shift, 4 pm-3 am
• $ 27.50/hr- premium shift included

 

Shop Foreman Qualifications:

• Ability to supervise, lead, and manage employees
• Able to communicate shift expectations to employees
• Ability to lead staff initiatives to maximize organizational efficiency and profitability
• Strong analytical skills, mechanical aptitude, and manual dexterity are preferred
• Able to read, write, and speak English
• Communication and interpersonal skills required
• Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
• Must be able to lift 70 lbs
• Previous experience as a foreman or supervisor preferred
