Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CMM Operator / Programmer – Quality Inspector to join a high-precision manufacturing environment in Sarasota, FL.

This position is being structured to accommodate a range of experience. The successful candidate may be a highly skilled CMM Operator/Inspector who has the technical aptitude and desire to develop into CMM programming, or an experienced CMM Programmer/Senior Inspector who can independently create and modify programs and handle more complex inspection requirements.

Compensation and responsibilities will be aligned with the candidate's demonstrated level of experience and capability.

This is a hands-on Quality position. While CMM inspection will be a significant component of the role, the individual will also perform other inspection duties within the Quality Lab based on production needs and the inspection schedule.

CMM, Software & Inspection Equipment

The Quality Lab utilizes:

• Mitutoyo Crysta-Apex S 7106 Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)

• MCOSMOS v5.2 CMM software

• Micro-Vu SOL 311 optical measurement and inspection system

Candidates with direct experience using Mitutoyo CMMs and MCOSMOS software are highly preferred. Experience with Micro-Vu or comparable optical measurement systems is also valuable.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to inspect precision-machined components against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

• Set up parts and execute established CMM programs accurately and efficiently.

• For candidates with programming experience, create, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize CMM programs using MCOSMOS or comparable CMM software.

• Perform dimensional and visual inspections of precision-machined components.

• Utilize the Micro-Vu SOL 311 and other optical or dimensional inspection equipment as required.

• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements.

• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections based on production and Quality requirements.

• Verify dimensions, tolerances, surface features, and other critical characteristics using appropriate inspection methods and equipment.

• Utilize standard precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, optical inspection equipment, and other metrology tools.

• Document inspection results accurately and maintain appropriate Quality records and reports.

• Identify and communicate nonconforming conditions, dimensional discrepancies, and potential Quality concerns.

• Work closely with machinists, programmers, engineers, and Quality personnel to resolve inspection or manufacturing issues.

• Assist with determining appropriate inspection methods, setups, and measurement strategies for complex components.

• Maintain inspection equipment and ensure the Quality Lab remains organized and inspection tools are handled appropriately.

• Support additional Quality inspection responsibilities as needed based on production priorities and inspection schedules.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in dimensional inspection, Quality Control, or Quality Assurance within a precision machining or manufacturing environment.

• Hands-on experience operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.

• Strong working knowledge of GD&T and dimensional tolerancing.

• Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately document inspection results.

• Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with manufacturing, engineering, and Quality teams.

• Experience inspecting close-tolerance precision-machined components is strongly preferred.

CMM Programming Experience

Candidates do not necessarily need to enter the position as fully experienced CMM programmers.

We are open to considering a strong CMM Operator/Inspector who has a solid inspection foundation, understands GD&T and precision measurement, and has the aptitude and interest to develop additional programming skills.

Candidates who already have significant CMM programming experience should be capable of independently creating and modifying programs, developing measurement strategies, troubleshooting inspection issues, and supporting more complex inspection requirements.

Direct experience with Mitutoyo CMM equipment and MCOSMOS software is highly desirable. Candidates with strong programming experience using other major CMM platforms may also be considered.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a high-precision machining environment where Quality requirements and tolerances are critical. They understand that this is not solely a CMM position and are willing to perform a variety of inspection functions within the Quality Lab.

Depending on experience, this individual may come in as a strong CMM Operator/Quality Inspector with the opportunity to expand their programming capabilities, or as an experienced CMM Programmer/Senior Inspector capable of taking ownership of more advanced programming and inspection responsibilities.

The level of responsibility and compensation will reflect the individual's demonstrated technical capabilities, CMM programming experience, inspection knowledge, and overall value they can bring to the Quality team.

Compensation

$55,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience and technical capability.

Candidates with strong inspection and CMM operating experience who are developing their programming skills may fall toward the lower to middle portion of the range. Experienced CMM programmers with advanced inspection capabilities and the ability to independently program and troubleshoot complex components may qualify toward the higher end of the range.
