Shift: 5am to 3:30pm Mon-Thurs, some Fri
Starting Pay: $18/hour

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Steel Grinder to support our welding and fabrication team. This position is responsible for using handheld grinding tools to prepare, clean, and finish steel components before and after welding operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a manufacturing, fabrication, or metalworking environment and be comfortable using various hand and power tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate handheld grinders and other power tools to remove weld splatter, slag, burrs, rust, and imperfections from steel materials.
• Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning and smoothing joints and edges.
• Assist welders with material preparation, fit-up, and general fabrication tasks.
• Grind and finish welded components to meet quality standards and specifications.
• Perform basic measurements using tape measures, squares, and other measuring tools.
• Inspect completed work to ensure proper finish and quality.
• Safely handle, move, and stage steel materials throughout the production process.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all company safety procedures, including proper use of PPE.
• Assist with additional shop duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience using handheld grinders in a manufacturing, fabrication, steel, or welding environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret basic work instructions and drawings.
• Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and metal finishing techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on concrete floors for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and face shields.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting welders in a fabrication or structural steel environment.
• Familiarity with MIG, TIG, or Stick welding processes.
• Experience operating overhead cranes or forklifts is a plus.
