Facilities Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Vernon Hills, IL
Pay Rate: $19.81/hour (non-negotiable)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:00 PM

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Maintenance Mechanic to support facility maintenance, custodial operations, groundskeeping, and seasonal snow removal activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of responsibilities and takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and professional environment.

The successful candidate will perform routine building maintenance, assist with room setups, maintain outdoor grounds, support receiving functions, and help ensure facilities are operating efficiently.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform routine building maintenance and report major repair needs.
• Inspect facility equipment and ensure proper operation.
• Complete preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and building systems.
• Replace light bulbs and perform minor repairs as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness throughout the facility, including common areas, offices, and restrooms.
• Set up and break down rooms for meetings, conferences, and special events.
• Monitor inventory of maintenance and custodial supplies.
• Receive and document incoming deliveries and materials.
• Support recycling and waste management programs.
• Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, pruning, and general landscaping duties.
• Pick up debris and maintain the appearance of parking lots and outdoor areas.
• Perform snow removal and de-icing of parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances during winter months.
• Order parts and coordinate outside vendor services when needed.
• Follow all safety procedures, policies, and facility guidelines.
• Perform other maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of housekeeping, janitorial, facilities, or maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks.
• Comfortable performing both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to continuously stand and walk throughout the workday.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and twisting.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 pounds regularly.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move more than 70 pounds.
• Ability to safely work from ladders and lifts when required.

Preferred

• Associate degree preferred.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
