Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join a growing engineering team in Winona, Minnesota. This is an onsite position for someone who enjoys taking a design from concept through production and collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, sales, purchasing, and planning teams.
The ideal candidate has strong 3D CAD and 2D drafting experience, a solid understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing processes, and the ability to transform project requirements into accurate, manufacturable designs.
What You'll Do
As a Mechanical Designer, you will create mechanical designs, technical drawings, and digital models while supporting products throughout the design and manufacturing lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering and sales teams to understand project requirements, specifications, and design objectives.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D production drawings for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
- Utilize Autodesk Inventor or comparable CAD software to develop accurate and manufacturable designs.
- Apply sound mechanical engineering principles throughout the design process.
- Create and maintain drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable quality, manufacturing, and industry standards.
- Support manufacturing, purchasing, planning, sales, and engineering teams throughout development and production.
- Provide technical assistance related to product design and production challenges.
- Investigate and resolve design, assembly, and BOM-related issues.
- Support pilot runs, product launches, and process changes.
- Conduct design reviews to verify functionality, manufacturability, and compliance.
- Partner with quality teams to address design-related concerns.
- Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and business objectives.
- Help maintain production continuity by responding to engineering and documentation issues as they arise.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Approximately 5 years of mechanical design experience.
- Strong experience creating 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
