Location: Austin / Dripping Springs, TX
Compensation: $130,000-$150,000+ annually, depending on experience
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

 

About the Opportunity

Our client is a growing, dynamic, high-tech engineering and manufacturing company serving industries including aerospace & defense, electronics, communications, and advanced testing systems. The organization operates with a lean, collaborative culture and is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement efforts.

This position reports directly to the CFO and supervises a small accounting team.

 

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for the integrity of the company's financial records, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close processes, and development of internal controls. This individual will work closely with program/project managers to ensure accurate project accounting, cost tracking, budget management, and milestone billing.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of manufacturing accounting, cost accounting, project accounting, treasury management, and leadership experience in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Partner with program and project managers to provide project accounting support, including cost tracking, budget monitoring, revenue recognition, and milestone billing.
  • Collaborate with the Staff Accountant to manage transactional accounting activities and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, fixed assets, and general ledger schedules.
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure accurate financial recordkeeping.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, budget reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Oversee banking relationships, treasury management, cash flow forecasting, and fund allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with sales tax, tax filings, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Direct and support external financial audits, including DCAA audits when applicable.
  • Develop, improve, and document accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support compliance with lease accounting standards, FAR/CAS requirements, and cost accounting practices.
  • Assist leadership with financial planning, reporting, and strategic decision-making.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments with strong cost accounting knowledge.
  • Experience supporting project managers with job cost tracking, budget management, and project accounting.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Experience managing banking relationships, treasury functions, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Experience supporting external audits.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident due to ITAR requirements.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace & Defense, electronics manufacturing, or government contracting experience.
  • Knowledge of DCAA audits, FAR, and CAS requirements.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
  • Experience with Epicor, Odoo, or similar ERP systems.
  • CPA designation.

 

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor a Staff Accountant and Accounting Intern.
  • Help establish and improve accounting and financial processes.
  • Support the continued growth and scalability of the finance department.
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to operations, project management, and executive leadership.
