Temporary Claims Specialist (FHA/VA)

Location: Lake Zurich, IL (100% Onsite)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)
Duration: 3-6 Month Contract (Temporary)
Pay Rate: $23-$24/hour

Our client, a leading financial services and mortgage firm, is seeking a Temporary Claims Specialist to support increased business volume. This position is responsible for preparing, filing, tracking, and pursuing mortgage insurance and investor claims in accordance with FHA, VA, insurer, investor, and company guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and experience handling FHA and VA claims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly reports and work queues to ensure all claim filing deadlines and timelines are met.
  • Prepare claims and supporting documentation, ensuring all required information has been collected and verified.
  • Identify missing documentation and coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal departments to obtain needed items.
  • Manage a daily caseload and perform timely follow-up activities through claim resolution.
  • Accurately document all servicing activity, actions taken, delays, follow-up efforts, and communications within the system of record.
  • Research and validate non-claimable items and exceptions.
  • Reconcile loan servicing system data with claim forms and supporting documentation.
  • Calculate and file claims for recovery of escrow advances, corporate advances, unpaid principal balances, and lost interest, as applicable.
  • Prepare and submit claim packages to investors, insurers, and government agencies.
  • Submit reimbursement requests to vendors when appropriate.
  • Ensure all claims comply with applicable insurer, investor, regulatory, and company requirements.
  • Investigate, reconcile, and report discrepancies found in documentation and claims.
  • Escalate issues such as claim denials, curtailments, reconveyances, offsets, title issues, missing documentation, and conveyance delays to leadership.
  • Maintain claim documentation and imaging standards within company systems.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with investors, insurers, vendors, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in required training and development programs.
  • Complete all regulatory and compliance training requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • FHA and VA claims experience required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Previous experience in mortgage servicing, default servicing, claims administration, insurance claims, or financial services.
  • Familiarity with investor and insurer claim guidelines.
  • Experience working with loan servicing platforms and claims management systems.
