Facilities Maintenance Technician

Pay: $21.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs general building and grounds maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, landscaping, and general facility upkeep. 

Essential Functions

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facility systems. 
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures, lighting, ceiling tiles, doors, HVAC equipment, and custodial equipment. 
  • Replace light bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets, and other minor electrical components as needed.
  • Keep facility grounds free of debris and maintain exterior areas, including gutters and drainage systems.
  • Perform landscaping, mowing, snow removal, and general grounds maintenance. 
  • Conduct carpentry work including door installation and repair, drywall repair, window repair, and minor roofing repairs. 
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, including unclogging sinks, toilets, and drains. 
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. 
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Estimate labor, materials, and equipment required for assigned projects.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and completed work.
  • Follow all safety procedures, building codes, and workplace regulations. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of building maintenance practices, methods, tools, and materials. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance and construction equipment. 
  • Understanding of workplace safety procedures and hazard prevention practices. 
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and facility occupants.
  • Ability to prepare basic reports and maintain maintenance records. 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Two years of building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or related experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. 
  • Ability to work from ladders and in varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. 
  • Exposure to noise, dust, weather conditions, and other maintenance-related work environments. 
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds continuously.
