Maintenance & Facilities Technician

 

Express Employment Professionals is currently seeking a dependable, hands-on Maintenance & Facilities Technician to oversee the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance, and operational needs of a 22,000-square-foot facility, including offices, classrooms, and program spaces.

 

This position is responsible for keeping the facility safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained for staff, program participants, and community members. The ideal candidate is a hands-on generalist with experience in building maintenance and practical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building repairs.

This is an on-site position requiring someone who is proactive, reliable, and comfortable responding to maintenance needs as they arise. Occasional evening and weekend availability may be required to support special events or facility emergencies.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs throughout the facility
• Perform basic HVAC maintenance, including filter changes, troubleshooting, and coordinating outside service when needed
• Handle basic electrical repairs involving outlets, switches, light fixtures, bulbs, and other minor issues
• Perform basic plumbing repairs, including clogged drains, running toilets, leaking faucets, and minor fixture replacement
• Complete general building repairs such as drywall patching, painting, door and lock adjustments, and furniture repairs
• Conduct regular building walkthroughs to identify potential maintenance issues before they become larger problems
• Maintain preventative maintenance schedules, service records, and maintenance logs
• Set up and break down furniture and equipment for meetings, programs, and special events
• Assist with basic audio/visual equipment setup, including projectors, laptops, PowerPoint, Zoom, and related equipment
• Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors for repairs and services outside the scope of in-house maintenance
• Assist with grounds maintenance, exterior building upkeep, and light landscaping as needed
• Help prepare the facility for seasonal and holiday events, including decorations, signage, and security readiness
• Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies, equipment, and tools
• Respond promptly to facility emergencies such as water leaks, power outages, HVAC failures, and other urgent issues
• Assist with routine life-safety checks, including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and alarm systems
• Coordinate required inspections and vendor services
• Provide occasional physical and logistical support to other departments as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school training or certification is a plus
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related trade
• Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools
• Valid driver's license required
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, bend, reach, and perform other physical tasks for extended periods
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Reliable, organized, and proactive approach to maintenance
