Facility Manager is responsible for ensuring that buildings, facilities, and their services operate efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively. The role combines operational management, maintenance, safety, budgeting, and people management to support an organization's daily operations.

A Facility Manager plays a critical role in creating a safe, functional, and efficient work environment while optimizing operational costs and ensuring regulatory compliance in the industry of manufacturing.

Key Job Responsibilities

1. Facility Operations Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of buildings and facilities.
  • Ensure all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, elevators, etc.) function efficiently.
  • Monitor facility performance and implement improvements.

2. Maintenance Management

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinate repairs and emergency maintenance.
  • Supervise maintenance staff and external contractors.
  • Ensure equipment and assets are properly maintained.

3. Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Develop emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and fire safety standards.

4. Budget and Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage facility budgets.
  • Monitor operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers.
  • Approve invoices and manage procurement of facility supplies.

5. Vendor and Contractor Management

  • Select, negotiate, and manage service contracts.
  • Evaluate contractor performance.
  • Ensure contractors comply with safety and quality standards.

6. Space Management

  • Plan office layouts and workspace utilization.
  • Coordinate office moves, renovations, and expansions.
  • Ensure facilities meet the organization's operational needs.

7. Security Management

  • Oversee building security systems and access control.
  • Coordinate with security personnel.
  • Ensure protection of employees, visitors, and company assets.

8. Sustainability and Environmental Management

  • Implement energy-saving initiatives.
  • Manage waste reduction and recycling programs.
  • Promote environmentally sustainable facility practices.

9. Asset Management

  • Maintain an inventory of facility assets.
  • Plan equipment replacement and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping.

10. Team Leadership

  • Supervise facility and maintenance staff.
  • Train employees on safety procedures.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and staff development.

    • Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP)
  • 3–7+ years of experience in facilities or property management (requirements vary by organization).
