Job Summary

The Warehouse Shipping Supervisor oversees the daily execution of the high-volume, small package outbound shipping department. This position focuses primarily on small parcel processing, utilizing FedEx Ship Manager, FedEx Web Services API, and carrier-integrated Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery. The supervisor manages a team of pickers, packers, and shipping clerks, monitoring productivity and compliance with small parcel standards.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations & Parcel Workflow

  • Oversee high-volume outbound shipping, prioritizing order waves to meet carrier pickup cutoffs.
  • Manage automated shipping software (FedEx Ship Manager) and ensure smooth sync with the internal WMS.
  • Verify daily manifested packages against physical orders to ensure correct labeling, barcoding, and addresses.
  • Troubleshoot shipping software errors, weight/dimension discrepancies, and international documentation failures (e.g., commercial invoices for FedEx International).
  • Coordinate directly with FedEx drivers, dispatchers, and account managers regarding daily pickup schedules, trailer spots, and peak season capacity constraints.

Team Leadership & Safety

  • Supervise, train, and schedule a dedicated team of shipping clerks, packers, and material handlers.
  • Enforce proper packing techniques (dunnage, box sizing, tape seals) to minimize FedEx dimensional weight (DIM weight) fees and prevent in-transit damage.
  • Conduct daily shift stand-up meetings to communicate performance goals, throughput targets, and safety protocols.

Inventory & Quality Control

  • Maintain adequate stock of shipping supplies, including FedEx-provided packaging, custom boxes, thermal labels, and packing materials.
  • Audit random packages daily for quality assurance, ensuring precise weight matching and documentation accuracy.
  • Investigate missing parcels, shipment delays, or delivery discrepancies, initiating claims with FedEx when necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Business is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of warehouse shipping experience, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • System Expertise: Deep operational knowledge of FedEx Ship Manager Hardware/Software (Server or Software editions) is strictly required. Familiarity with high-volume pick-and-pack operations is required.
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel (for tracking metrics and shipping data analytics) and enterprise WMS software. Strong attention to detail regarding small-parcel constraints, carrier fees, and domestic/international compliance.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods on a warehouse floor, and operate manual or electric pallet jacks if required.
