Express Employment Professionals is seeking a full-time Electrical Maintenance Technician for a high-quality paperboard packaging company located in Buffalo, NY. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, dedicated team!
3rd Shift: Mon-Fri 9:50pm-6:00am, $1.00 differential
Payrate: $36-47/hr based on experience
Position Overview: Perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting; boiler making; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs. In addition, this position has responsibility for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures; ensuring that work is in accordance with relevant codes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintenance Duties-
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams.
- Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other parts of building structures.
- Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Align and balance new equipment after installation.
- Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
- Maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery found in cafeterias, laundries, hospitals, stores, offices, or factories.
- Fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures.
- Estimate repair costs.
- Lay brick to repair and maintain buildings, walls, arches, and other structures.
- Grind and reseat valves, using valve-grinding machines.
Electrical Duties-
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices (e.g., ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes) to ensure compatibility and safety.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Place conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
- Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures.
- Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.
- Construct or fabricate parts, according to specifications.
- Perform troubleshooting on drives and PLCs when needed.
- Install 480V and 110V circuit breaker installation on a quarterly basis.
- Order parts as necessary.
- Perform any additionally assigned duties as requested.
Position Prerequisites:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 3 years previous experience
- Relevant vocational training
- Current electrician's license preferred
- Or an equivalent amount of education and experience
Position Requirements:
- Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Follow procedures, specifications, and guidelines for the position
- Work at an efficient pace meeting all expectations
- Functional knowledge of arc flash protection equipment
- Ability to properly and safely operate conduit benders and other position-specific equipment
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow schematics
- Capability to program drives and PLCs
- Functional knowledge of electrical codes
- Ability to safely and properly operate tools and equipment necessary for the position
- Be able to work overtime as required
- Ability to communicate effectively (written or verbal)
- Have good team working skills
- Exercise accuracy in all functions of the position
- Accept levels of responsibility and accountability commensurate with the position

Environmental Conditions:
- Shop setting, with occasional exposure to outside elements.
- Noise typical of a production environment, with sound levels within acceptable ranges.
