Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Tube Mill Operator to run CNC and manual hobbing machines producing gears and precision components to exact blueprint specifications. This role requires strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge, precision measurement skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining consistent quality and production standards. This is an individual contributor position well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable owning their own work with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC and/or manual hobbing machines to produce gears and components to blueprint specifications and tolerances. Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T callouts to determine correct setup, tooling, and machining sequence. Select and install hobs, arbors, and fixtures appropriate to each job, and use a hoist as needed for heavier tooling or workpieces. Inspect in-process and finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify conformance to specifications. Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean, organized, and safe. Maintain accurate production records and quality documentation for each job run. Follow all safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Collaborate with Quality Control and Engineering to troubleshoot issues, resolve non-conformances, and support continuous improvement. Monitor machine performance throughout the shift, making adjustments as needed to maintain tight tolerances and minimize scrap or rework.

Skills Required

Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge. Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.). Solid basic math skills for machining calculations.

Qualities Required

Detail-oriented and precise. Mechanically inclined. Reliable and consistent. Works well independently.

Experience Required

Prior experience operating hobbing machines required; CNC hobbing experience strongly preferred.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; formal machining training a plus.

CNC/manual hobbing machines. Hobs, arbors, and fixtures. Micrometers and calipers. Hoist (as applicable).

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand for a full shift. Manual dexterity required. Ability to bend and reach around machinery as needed.

Expected Results

Gears and components consistently meet blueprint specifications and tolerances, delivered on schedule. Low scrap and rework rates. Machines run reliably with minimal downtime. Production and quality documentation kept complete and accurate.
