About the Company

Express Employment is seeking a Furnace Tender to join a local manufacturing company in Rock Island, IL.

This is a hands-on manufacturing position responsible for preparing and maintaining the furnace, delivering properly prepared alloy to the molding line, and supporting quality and production processes. The ideal candidate will be safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable working in a physically demanding production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and load the furnace with the appropriate alloy according to production documentation and adjust the furnace to the required temperature
  • Flux and degas alloy as specified and deliver the appropriate alloy to the molding line at the proper temperature
  • Monitor and chart alloy temperatures prior to pouring and submit weekly temperature records to the supervisor
  • Instruct and train employees on pouring molds, changing jackets, and proper shakeout procedures while ensuring quality methods are followed
  • Maintain inventory records, follow scheduled equipment maintenance, and safely remove castings and place them in the appropriate carts

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read and follow production documentation and temperature specifications
  • Ability to safely operate and work around furnaces, machinery, and manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to follow all required safety procedures and wear required PPE, including steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and dust mask
  • Ability to provide instruction and training to other employees on production and quality procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds while turning and twisting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous furnace, foundry, metal manufacturing, or casting experience
  • Previous experience working with alloys or furnace equipment
  • Experience training or directing employees in a production environment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing quality and safety procedures
